James Alexander "Jimmy" Coit entered this life on February 16, 1945 to Robert William Coit, Sr. and Mary O. Smith Coit in Tabor City, NC. He departed this life on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Forsyth Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC.

Jimmy accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior as a teenager and attended Gospel Tabernacle Holiness Church in Latta, SC.

Jimmy served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, and was honorably discharged.

He was married to Alice Hemmingway of Marion, SC and to this union one son, Jezreel Alexander Coit, was born.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert William Coit, Sr.

He leaves to mourn his death, his son, Jezreel Alexander Coit and his wife, Alice Hemmingway Coit, both of Winston Salem, NC; his mother, Mary O. Smith Coit of Columbia, SC; five brothers, Robert W. (Lorraine) Coit, Jr. of Rocky Mount, NC, Edward J. (Mary) Coit of Greenville, AL, Joseph D. Coit, Luther S. (Alberta) Coit, Sr., and Fred W. (Cynthia) Coit all of Columbia, SC.; one sister, R. Marie Coit also of Columbia, SC.; nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews and a host of relatives and friends; and his lifelong friend, Charles Arthur Kinney and devoted friend, Henry Elder also mourns his death.

Funeral services will be held at 11:15 am Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred W. Coit officiating. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. Family visitation will be held from 10:30 am until 11:15 am Tuesday at the funeral home.
