James Jeter was called home on January 20, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was a residence of the Lutheran Home in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born to John Henry and Hazel Jeter on June 15, 1941.
Mr. Jeter was a graduate of Atkins High School, Class of 1958. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years and worked for RJR Tobacco Company as an electrical engineer. He retired from Tultex Textiles in Roxboro, NC.
James' hobbies included: golfing, watching TV, and eating a good home cooked meal. His favorite sports teams were Wake Forest University and the Pittsburg Steelers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Henry Jeter, Jr.; his sister, Maurice Hemmingway; and a loving and devoted mother-in-law, Annie McIlwaine.
Left to cherish his loving memories, a brother, Alphonso Jeter (Cynthia); a devoted wife, Roberta; daughters, Jennifer Jeter and Trena Young; a son, James Jeter, Jr.; four grandchildren, Keondra and Kevin Simmons, Jamesh Young and Katlyn Nance; four nieces, Andrea, Annette, Johnetta and Keesha; three nephews, Jimmy, Kevin and Renard (a special golfing buddy); seven sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, January 24, 2009 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Charles W. Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery on Monday, January 26, 2009. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Saturday at the Chapel.
