Our Heavenly Father decided to call one of His mighty men of God home. James "Jim" Hash, our father who we loved and respected, went home on Tuesday, June 10, 2008.
He was born to William Moses Hash and Etta Carter Hash in Cranberry, VA on August 27, 1931, he was the only child.
He attended Sacramento State College and Tuskegee Institute. He was a graduate of the University of California in Davis, California.
Mr. Hash was an accomplished speaker and served as President of the Toastmasters International Club from 1966-1968. He was a self-employed entrepreneur. Mr. Hash was an avid jogger and ran several marathons. He also won several awards and was the subject of many sport news columns.
He was a member of Linville Forest Church of Christ until his health declined, and then at that time he became a member of Charity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and was married for 42 years to Mattie Sue Hunter Hash who also preceded him death.
Mr. Hash was the greatest example of a husband, father, grandfather, and mentor you could ever ask for.
He was a true Godly gentleman in every sense of the word.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Jacqueline Hash, James W. Hash, and Catherine (Paul) Sheff; grandchildren, Sinclair and Sterling Martin, and Victoria Sheff; the wonderful staff, residents, and friends at Oak Summit Nursing Home; and other friends, cousins, and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday, June 16, 2008 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dwight Hash officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2pm on Monday at the Chapel.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the most wonderful, caring, and loving staff at Oak Summit Nursing Home who made the remaining years of his life so wonderful and as comfortable as possible. The family would also like to give special thanks to Elder George Hauser's family and to the late great George Hauser, our dad's roommate and special friend.
