Our loved one, James T. Harper, affectionately known to his family as "PaPa," was born June 30, 1935 to Rosa and Roger Harper in Davie, Co., NC. He passed away on the morning of May 9, 2012 at Universal Healthcare in King, NC after a hard-fought, lengthy illness.
PaPa served his country as an Army medic during two enlistments at home and overseas. He worked for the former Armstrong News Co. for several years before his retirement in 1992. PaPa was a lifelong L.A. Dodger fan and enjoyed gospel music. He was also a youth bowling coach for several years and a longtime member of the Camel City Bowling Club.
PaPa crossed the last bridge of life knowing that he was and is loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed, but let us rejoice that his suffering has ended, and that he is now free.
PaPa is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine, of the home; three stepsons, John, Rodney, and Ronald; two step daughters, Faye and Annette; a special "adopted" daughter, Robin Evans; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; and a special "adopted" great-granddaughter. PaPa also held a very special affection for the Lankford family.
Homegoing services will be held at 12noon Monday, May 14, 2012 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norwood Green officiating. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Monday at the Chapel
