It is with immense poignancy that our family announces the passing of our dear loved one, James Ray Hampton, on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the age of 73 years. Ray will be affectionately remembered by his three loving children, Carolyn Lindsay, Vanlentesseon Wilson, Ray Wilson Jr.; his four siblings, Claude Edward Hampton, Ralph Hampton (Virgie), Juanita Warren Hampton, and Barbara Hampton Leak (James); six grandchildren, India Nelson, Asa Wilson, Keyshaun Wilson, Zemar Wilson, Zaire Wilson, and Christina Stanback; two great grandchildren, Nazir Wilson and Nazya Miller, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ray was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lorine and Claude Hampton; his two brothers, Wille and Roy Hampton; and his sister, Betty Terry.

Ray was born June 22, 1947, in Wilkes County, NC, to the Lorine and Claude Hampton. A native of Wilkes County, Ray relocated to Winston Salem with his family as a teen. He attended school in Winston Salem, was a loyal employee of the City of Winston Salem, and remained faithful to his community and family. A loving father of three and a family man, Ray extended his love, arms, and home to anyone who needed refuge. He will be notably remembered as the father, uncle, and brother, that always had an open door, words of wisdom, and a great sense of humor that made us all smile.

Private graveside services will be held Friday, July 24, 2020 with Elder Ralph Hampton, officiating.
