James Leon Giles was born in Winston-Salem, NC on April 19, 1934 to John "Charlie" and Ethel Miller Giles. He departed this life December 20, 2017.
Jimmy, as he was affectionately called, was employed by Lucent Technologies for 35 years as a Layout Operator. He was also employed part-time at Forsyth Country Club for 30 years. He was a life-long member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Ruth (Aaron); two brothers, John Jr. (Rosa "Cille"), and Charles "Townsend"; one son, James Louis Giles; and sister-in-law, Irene.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 64 years, Greta Cook Giles; son, Mark Giles of Winston-Salem; daughters, Cynthia "Cookie" Locke of Ohio and Tara Giles; two brothers, Willie "Lo" Giles (Lucille) and Robert "Bobby" Giles; one sister, Elizabeth Hairston (Henry), all of Winston-Salem; daughter-in-law, Shelley Giles; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at 12:00noon Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Mars Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness show to them during their hour of bereavement. They also extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Gonzalez and her Novant Health team and the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
