Rev. Dr. James Fulwood, Jr. gained his heavenly wings on Monday, October 17, 2022 at his home here in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Dr. Fulwood was born to the late Willie James and Rosa Bell Fulwood on May 23,1937 in Kingstree, South Carolina.
He graduated from Thomason High School in Kingstree South Carolina, Fulwood furthered his education at Shaw University in Raleigh , North Carolina where he earned a degree in Religion and Philosophy and graduated Magna Cum Laude and also was a member of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society.
He was a devoted Airline Mechanic at Piedmont Airlines until he retired on July 31, 1989 to become the full time Pastor of the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. After Rev. Fulwood stepped in as the shepherd and leader , blessings started flowing from on high. With his leadership St. Mark accomplished many goals through the years. He loved his church family , even retiring after 46 years through rain and sunshine he still pressed his way.
Dr. Fulwood was the past president of the Baptist Minister Fellowship , he also was a 32nd Degree Mason of Prince Hall. He was a teacher for the City Wide Training Institute for Ministers. Fulwood was also a member of the Winston Salem Park and Recreation of the city. He was a member of A. Phillip Randolph and a member of the NAACP.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie James and Rosa Bell Fulwood; two sisters, Rosa Mae and Mildred Fulwood; and three brothers, Leroy, Jefferey and Earl Fulwood.
Left to cherish his memory are his lovely wife of 63 years, Hattie Fulwood and to this union two children were born, Fayelene Fulwood and Demetris Fulwood. He was also blessed with a son, Greg Horne (Catherine). He had a special place in his heart for his granddaughter, Whitney Fulwood. Also, his devoted great grandchildren, Zaree, Zamari and James and a host of grandkids and great grands who he also loved. Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Marvin Fulwood, Robinson Fulwood (Janice), Carlotta Miller (Keith) and Sarah Fulwood Beasley; 3 brothers-in-law, Harold Easter, Leroy Easter and Tommie Easter (Ann); sister-in-law, Juanita Easter; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and beloved friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, October 21, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.
The family visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Friday, October 21, 2022 at St. Mark Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, October 22, 2022 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. James M. Lewis, Jr. officiating and Rev. Warren Napper eulogist.
