Mr. James "Big Al" Chalmers, 74, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016. He was born on March 17, 1941 in Newberry, SC to the late James and Eunice Chalmers.
Mr. Chalmers retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 35 years of service. He was a man of faith and a member at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. He also was a member of 33rd Degree Mason, PHA; Royal and Select Masters, PHA; Royal Arch Mason # 65, PHA; Knights Templar, PHA; Past Potentate Sethos Temple # 170, PHA; King Solomon Consistory #64, PHA; Past Master Bivouac Lodge #503, PHA; Right Worshipful Master of 30th District, PHA; Imperial Ambassador-At-Large, PHA; and Sisters of Bivouac Chapter #530 Order of the Eastern Star, PHA.
Mr. Chalmers now joins his parents; wife, Geraldine Chalmers; and daughter, Jane Chalmers who preceded him in death.
He's survived by his two sons, Cedric (Laquana) Glenn, Sr. and Gerald (Teresa) Chalmers; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, February 5, 2016 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Nathan Scovens officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church. Masonic burial rites will be held at 6:00pm Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
