Obituary

James Edward Campbell was born in Advance, NC to the proud parents of Mr. James Henry Campbell (Loretta) and Mrs. Lillian B. Campbell Mock (Richard) on Sunday, June 15, 1953 and departed on Thursday, September 28, 2012.

James "Jay" Campbell graduated from Atkins Senior High School in 1971 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1972, then honorably discharged in 1986. He attended Winston-Salem State University, taking courses in English and Communications. He retired from Johnson Controls, in Kernersville, NC, after 15 years of dedicated service.

Jay enjoyed the simple pleasures in life with a passion for flying, taking lessons when his free time allowed. He also enjoyed reading, writing, science fiction and jazz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian B. Campbell Mock and Richard Mock.

James is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gwendolyn Fonville Campbell; daughters, Deiara LaVon Campbell and Devon Elizabeth Campbell; son, Damien Lawrence Campbell; granddaughter, Bryndal Elise Campbell; parents, James Henry Campbell (Loretta); brothers, Curtis Lewis Campbell, Michael Henry Campbell (Yvette), Ronald Dean Campbell (Felecia) and William Henry Lynch (Aileen); sisters Patricia Hairston, Crystal D. Mock Powell, Tahyna "Spirit" Bowser, Stephanie Jo Lynch, Dorothy Mae Mock Hudspeth and Danita Yvette Mitchell; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, close family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, October 4, 2012 at First Baptist Church, 700 N. Highland Ave. W-S, NC with Reverend Darryl Aaron officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.
