James Allen Cain Sr., "PunkieBoy", was born February 1, 1945 in Bishopville, SC and departed his life on August 29, 2018. He was blessed with four loving parents, the late Annie Mae and Ervin Julius Cain, who reared him in their home and Jessie Mae and Robert Hall, Sr.
James graduated from Paisley High School in 1964 where he was a running back on the football team. James received a scholarship to attend WSSU, but was drafted into the military. He served 2 tours in Vietnam while in the US Army. James reached the rank of Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Medal of Heroism, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Army Good Conduct Medal (7), NCO Professional Good Conduct Ribbon, Overseas Service Bar (3), Soldiers Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Drill Sergeant Badge. He served in the US Army for 27 years.
James grew up in Kimberly Park Holiness Church. He had a love for his family and friends as displayed by his cook-outs and social gatherings. James was co-founder of the Cain & Chambers Family Reunion and attended 24 reunions until his health failed.
Preceding James in death was his brother, Ronnie Cain.
James loved all of his siblings, Joean Gary, Juanita Jones (Mike), Frank Cain, Larry Cain, Robert Hall, Jr. (Annette), Shelia Caldwell (Levell), Marilyn Dunlap (Carl), Joyclyn Hall, Vickie Cain, Patricia Spann (Cedric), Ervin Cain, and Gwendolyn Glenn (Randy). James's extended family in SC are Mozelle Wilson Isaac, Malachi Wilson (deceased), Julian Washington (Leslie), Larry Wilson (Elanora), and Deborah Wilson. James is survived by one aunt, Barbara Davis. He has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Carl Dunlap officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be held at 10:00am Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Salisbury National Cemetery.
