Obituary

James Robert Brock, born March 4, 1947, was the first offspring of Luther and Ruth Brock of Mocksville, NC. He completed his earthly tour of duty on March 17, 2023. James Brock, Sr. moved to Forsyth County with his family at an early age, attended school in Forsyth County, and was a graduate of Carver Consolidated School. In 1976, he received, with honors, an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Electronic Data Processing from Forsyth Technical Institute (now Forsyth Technical Community College). From 1964 to 1967 he served in the U.S. Army including one year in Vietnam with the First Air Cavalry Airborne Brigade. He also served with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Division, and lived up to its motto: "All The Way, Airborne!" He was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th class.

Upon leaving the service, he was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 35 years and retired in 2002. He also owned and operated Brock's Tax Preparation Service for 42 years. He was a lifelong member of Central Triad Church, formerly known as Christ Temple Church, where he was a Parking Attendant, served on the Usher Board, and sang in the Choir.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ruth Brock.

He leaves to cherish his memory and honor his legacy, his wife, Mattie Sanders Brock of the home; two daughters, Memory Brock Jones of Raleigh, NC and Ginger Nichole Brock (Katie) of Char[1]lotte, NC; one son, James Robert Brock, Jr. (Artrivia) of Winston-Salem, NC; six grandchildren, James Robert Brock, III, Kayelin Brock, Cameron Brock, Isabella Jones, Colin Brock-Boone, and Wren Brock-Boone; one brother, Luther (Rhonda) Brock; three sisters, Gwendolyn (John) Barkley, Barbara King, and Carolyn Brock all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, March 24, 2023 at Central Triad Church. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
