Obituary

On Friday, March 8, 2013, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called home his humble servant James Blake.

James loved the Lord and he loved people.

James was born February 15, 1937 to Inell Blake Moore and George Gist in Chester County, SC.

He graduated from Finley High School and was a veteran of the Korean War, 82nd Airborne Division.

After his time in the Army, he relocated to Winston-Salem, NC and was employed by RJ Reynolds. He later moved to Flint, MI where he served on the board of the NAACP and was a retiree of General Motors.

His favorite pastime was walking, dining at good restaurants, and eating hot peppers. His favorite song was "God is Real in My Soul". He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Michigan, where he was a leader and member of the Male Choirs. James was also a deacon and Chairman of the Trustee Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Annie Mae Crockett; and stepfather, George F. Moore.

James is survived by his wife, Joan White Blake; two daughters, Brenda Blake Mack (Kirk) and Inez V. Blake all of W-S; two grandchildren, Lynette and Jessie (Ashantris) Blake; two great grandchildren, Jessie, Jr. and Joleil Blake; three step grandchildren; siblings, Wilhelmena M. Moore (Patricia) of Harrisburg, NC; one special aunt, Rose Taylor of Rock Hill, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

We, the family, are thankful to God for the time he gave James to us and how he richly blessed our lives.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, March 18, 2013 at Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church with Reverend William C. Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Monday at the Church.
