Mr. James "JB" Benjamin was born March 12, 1931 in Bishopville, SC to the late Bill and Lullie Benjamin. He departed this earthly life on February 24, 2013.
He attended Dennis High School and moved to W-S, NC in the early 1950's. He furthered his education through vocational trades with a concentration in plumbing. "JB" was employed by D.W. Andrews Plumbing Co., owned his own business in plumbing, and later operated his own construction company, Benjamin Contracting Services.
He was a life-long member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where he belonged to the Men's Usher Board and the St. Mark's Laymen League Group. Community affiliations include Camel City Elks Lodge and Mount Moriah Lodge #168.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Benjamin; his daughter, Mary Ann Wilson; his sister, Annie Smith; and one grandchild.
He is survived by his children, Annie Scriven, Edward Wilson, Betty Benjamin, Hubert Smith, Wayne Goldsboro, Pam Goldsboro, and Jamesia Harrigan; one sister, Julian (Kenny) Carter; five generations of grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Wednesday at the Church. Final rites by Mount Moriah Lodge #168 will be held at 12noon Wednesday at the Church.
