Jacob Augustus Denton was born on May 14, 1943 in Clarendon, Jamaica. He was a man of country living and he knew all about fruits, vegetables, and raising farm animals. The family lived off the land, Jacob being the sixth of nine children in the 1940's relied heavily on imagination in his youth, while growing up in a strict Christian household. However, Jacob lovingly was a fighter and the only persons who would beat him were his parents.
Jacob learned to use his hands in amateur boxing and carpentry. With what he learned in carpentry, he was able to build his father's casket at the time of his father's death. In the 1970's, Jacob came to America where he continued to use his hands picking apples and various fruits across the east coast. Jacob married Betty in 1976 with whom he had a daughter with and named her Jackie. After a few years of irreconcilable differences, they parted ways. In the mid 1980's Jacob met Patricia, and they had a son in 1988 and named him Antoney. Jacob was a hardworking entrepreneur and opened up a family grocery store, however he was severely wounded by a gunshot wound to the abdomen in 1995. He recovered and went on to work for several years in the hotel industry.
In 2022 of November, Jacob was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Despite the news, his life became much more fuller with relationships and celebrations. He had one of the biggest celebrations ever for his 80th birthday, hosted by his nieces, Shem and Sherene. He was visited by family from all over the country and the U.K. and attended the wedding of his niece, Denese. Jacob spent his final moments watching the 2024 Super Bowl with family and friends and he passed away on February 12, 2024. There is much to be shared about Jacob's life, please ask a family member or friend about who he was to them. Thank you!
