Ms. Iveria Hardy (Oakes) Shuler of Brandemere Place, transitioned from earth to our heavenly Father on January 5, 2024 (3:57 AM) at Forsyth Medical Center following a period of illness. She was born on August 31, 1939, to the late Mr. William F. and Mrs. Annie Bell Rainey Hardy in Winston Salem, NC.
Iveria was educated in W-S/Forsyth County School System. She was employed with Northwest Child Development Center for over 25 years. Her early years of employment (which she recently reminisced regarding) was working along-side her sister in a local Bakery. She really enjoyed and continued to spend much of her retirement years cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was baptized and received her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while attending Mars Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the WE Samuels Spiritual Choir and assisted with the Kitchen Ministry. Currently she was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and continued to attend until covid when she began to experience health challenges.
After many years of service, Iveria retired from K&W Cafeteria and was very well known for the meals she cooked in the Happy Hill Gardens Community. Everyday, someone would ask of what Ms. Bill had cooked for that day. She was very much loved for her outreach of feeding to the neighborhood children, for that alone was her passion.
Iveria was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. William F. and Mrs. Annie Bell Rainey Hardy; first husband, David Oakes, Sr. (until his passing); husband, T.J. Shuler; two daughters, Vernice H. Westmoreland and Barbara Oakes Brown; and son, Kinard Oakes; sisters, Lillie Mae Allen and Annie H Davis; brother, William Sonny Hardy; two grandsons, Jermaine (Manny) Oakes and Jhonte J. Peters.
Iveria leaves to cherish loving memories four sons, Jackie (Shay) Hardy, David (Gyda) Oakes, Charlie & Linard Oakes; one daughter, Mona Oakes; one sister, Mattie Hardy; three devoted granddaughters, Shamika Hardy, Shanee Hardy, of Maryland and Tramona Oakes; and one devoted great granddaughter, Zion Hardy of Norfolk, VA; fifteen grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; four great-great children; and host of nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
