Iris Nadine Porter Barr was born May 8, 1941 to the late James B. Porter and Ruth C. Porter. She accepted Christ in her life as a young child and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church for almost 30 years. She retired from Wake Forest Baptist Health after 39 years. She departed this life on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Barr, Jr.; father, James; mother, Ruth; stepmother, Fannie Porter; brothers, Alfonza Thompson, Bernard Porter, and Emmanuel Porter; sisters, Dorothy Ingram and Jacqueline Porter; granddaughter, Shanita Gray; and great-granddaughter Chloe Gray.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Veronica G. Gattison, Michael A. (Teresa) Gray, Sr., and Yvette G. (Terry) Griffin; her beloved grandchildren, Anthony T. Gray, D'Angelo J. Gray, Jaron G. (Shana) Bailey, Michael A. Gray, Jr., and Brittany N, Gray; her two great-grandchildren, Kiona Spruill and Kali Gray; her devoted siblings, Betty (Rueben) Hash, James Durant (Johnsie), Lois Jean Wilkins, Emma Parham, Arnita (James) Streater, Gloria Porter, Theodore Porter, Timothy Porter, and Felder Lockhart; sister-in-law, Helen Porter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Lester Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
