Obituary

Mrs. Iris E. Acker Carpenter, 9, of 100 Carter Circle passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on February 7, 1938 in Winston-Salem, NC to Ora and William F. Acker.

She attended the local public schools and had attended Goler Memorial AME Zion Church where she served as a Class Leader and member of the Parent Body Missionary Society. She was a longtime employee of Montaldos Department Store and more recently with the John F. and Betty Whitaker Family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Carpenter; parents, Ora and William F. Acker; brother, Kenneth Evans and daughter-in-law, Alphalonia "PEACHES" Gwyn.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son, Darrell Winfred Gwyn; a precious granddaughter, Tyenesha Gwyn; a loving sister, Dr. Alice Johnson; sister-in-law, Robin Evans of Detroit, MI; nieces, Linda J. Sutton, Bonita (Delbert) Gray of Winston-Salem, NC and Marsha Evans of Detroit, MI; nephews, Wesley Johnson and Orlando Johnson of Rome, Italy, Carl Ray Johnson, Marvin Johnson and Randy Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins; extended family, the Perkins family; special devoted friends, Mrs. Betty Warren and Mr. and Mrs. John Whitaker and family, and many other loving friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Paul A. Lowe Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM on Saturday at the Chapel.
