Ina Patricia Martin was born in Stokes County on March 8, 1924 to Jessie and Eva Mabe. She was united in marriage in 1943 to Burnis G. Martin. The Lord called her home on September 29, 2016. She was 92. Granny, as she was called by many, graduated from Stokes County school system and was a lifelong member of Kings Mountain View Progressive Primitive Baptist Church. Until her health declined, she actively served on the Senior Choir and Women's Auxiliary.
Mrs. Martin graduated from Le-Mae Beauty College and loved to practice her craft of cosmetology. She worked over 50 years at Modern Cleaners and 25 years at Gilbarco as a Calibrator Tester. Throughout her life, she never met a stranger and truly captured the hearts of anyone that she encountered. You can be sure you would always be greeted with a hug. She loved cooking for her family and enjoyed family gatherings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burnis G. Martin; son, Richard Mabe Martin; daughter, Priscilla Porter; grandson, Keith Scales; great-grandson, Michael Medley II; and her sister, Virginia King.
Mrs. Martin leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Faye Nevels of Greensboro and Deloris Martin of Kernersville; one son, Donnie (Terris) Martin of Kernersville; one brother, Jessie Mabe; two sisters-in-law, Essie Linville and Patricia Martin both of Winston Salem; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; longtime neighbor and cousin, Gertie Webster; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, October 3, 2016 at Kings Mountain View Progressive Primitive Baptist Church, Westfield, NC with Elder James R. Strickland, officiating and Minister Martin Brooks Hughes, eulogist. Interment will follow in Kings Mountain View Progressive Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.
