Mrs. Ina M. Hairston, 86, formerly of 2805 Rosemary Drive, was a patient at Reynolds House with extended illness for eight years, and moved to hospice as her health decline, she passed away at 7:55 pm Wednesday, February 14, 2007. She was a native of Charlotte, NC born March 31, 1920 to Harvey and Macie Massey.
She had resided in Winston-Salem since early childhood and was a member of Hanes CME Church on Highland Avenue. Mrs. Hairston was educated in the public schools and was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Whitaker Park with 44 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves cherish, her devoted nephew, Mr. Hiawatha Lee Alexander; two nieces, Betty Turnage of New Haven, Conn. and Theola East of Winston-Salem, NC; niece-in-law, Bernice Witherspoon; five nephews, Alphonso Witherspoon, Timothy Alexander, Leon Witherspoon, Jerome Witherspoon, Claude Witherspoon; a devoted step-nephew, Mr. Randy Dozier; great nieces and great nephews; first cousins, Mrs. Annie Mae Dunlap, Mrs. Ruth Edwards, Mrs. Jessie Brewer; a very good friend of Mrs. Hairston, Jerome Griffin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday, February 19, 2007 at Hanes Memorial CME Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 11:30 am until 12 noon Monday at the church.
