Imogene Elizabeth Joyner was born on March 12, 1930 in Winston Salem, NC. She went peacefully to her eternal rest on Monday, October 17, 2011. She was the only child born to the late Mamie and Allen White. She attended school in Winston Salem and was employed by Western Electric Company for many years prior to retiring.
She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Edward Joyner and to this union four children were born: Ray Joyner, Judy Joyner Harper, Edward Joyner and Stephen W. Joyner.
At an early age she joined First Institutional Baptist Church which later merged with West End Baptist Church and became United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. She participated actively in the choir and numerous other church activities for many years including "Meals on Wheels" of which she had the honor of performing this volunteer duty with her mother.
She always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of a bridge club and an avid card player. Imogene was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Among those who will cherish her memories are her children, Ray Joyner ( Sandra), Judy Joyner Harper ( Edward), Edward Joyner ( Yvonne), and Stephen W. Joyner (Narell); ten grandchildren, Samuel Shore, Ray Joyner Jr., Faith Joyner, Eric Joyner, Elliot Joyner, Rhea Joyner, Edward Joyner Jr. ( Arian) , Stephen Joyner Jr., Brian Joyner and Janel Joyner; eight great-grandchildren, Faith Joyner, Precious Joyner, Jamail Tucker, Tajir Lee, Johnathan Joyner, Andrew Joyner, Edward Joyner , and Alicia Joyner; and a host of other family members, countless friends, and fellow church members.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, October 21, 2011 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Prince Raney Rivers officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
