Mrs. Idella Caldwell Jones, matriarch of the Caldwell and Rumph families, peacefully slipped away to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, April 29, 2011. She was the daughter of the late James and Corrine Caldwell, born May 27, 1927.
She was a 1944 graduate of Atkins High School, attended Winston-Salem State University, and was a graduate of La Mae Beauty College. She was a retiree of the City of Winston-Salem and a member of St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Jones was actively involved in several neighborhood and community programs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Pauline Caldwell McCurry and Mary Caldwell Bivins; and one brother, James Caldwell, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories three daughters, Blondia Caldwell Ferrell, Phyllis Thomas Turner, and Sylvia Caldwell Oden; her only son, Willie Malone, Jr.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many loyal friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Chapel.
The family will be receiving friends at her son's home, 1156 Salem Lake Road Winston-Salem, NC.
