Hubert received his education through the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System and graduated from Carver High School, class of 1958. He furthered his education at St. Joseph Business and Accounting Academy. Hubert was employed by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as a machine operator for 32 years.

After retiring, he attended Forsyth Technical College and received his real estate license and acquired several properties and businesses including Community Shoe Store. While he owned Community Shoe Store, he created many jobs for high school and college students.

Hubert was a long-time member of Bethania A.M.E. Zion Church before joining St. James A.M.E. Church in 2003. During his membership at St. James A.M.E., he served on the Usher Board, Lay Organization, and lawn maintenance crew.

He leaves to cherish many loving memories, his wife of 66 years, Ericsteen Jefferson Lash; a daughter, Melodie (Kenneth) Vereen of Lexington, KY; a son, Cedric (LaWanda) Lash of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Ken Vereen, Jr. (Erica), Kevin Vereen, Keith Vereen, Alexandrea Lash, and Kendrick Lash; one great-granddaughter, Kenleigh Vereen; several devoted cousins, Donald Lash, Carla Hauser, Sherron Richardson, and Michael Hauser; and a host of other relatives and friends. Hubert will be deeply missed.
