Mr. Hosea Cleopheus Pittman, age 93, formally of 1414 N. Cameron Ave, Winton-Salem, NC, went home to be with the Lord on September 11, 2010 at the Brian Center. Mr. Pittman was born July 16, 1917 in Biggers, Arkansas, to the late Greeney Pittman and Mary Sue Phillips Pittman. He was a veteran of the United Sates Army and served in World War II. Mr. Pittman was employed by the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School system as a Lead Custodian at Skyland Elementary. He retired in 1982 after 28 years of service. Mr. Pittman was a faithful member of St. James AME Church for over 60 years. Due to his love for his church, during his years at St. James, Mr. Pittman was an appointed Steward and faithfully served as a member of the Senior Choir, the Sunday school, and the Lay Organization until his health declined. Mr. Pittman was the oldest male member at St. James; he made liberal donations to the church, and supported all church organizations and auxiliaries.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pittman was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his nephew, Charles Pittman of St. Louis, MO; his extended family, a loving and devoted caregiver, Bettie (Franklin) Bennett, Felecia (Terrance) Giles, Dr. Belinda (Forrest) McFeeters of Winston-Salem, NC, and Dr. Jabbar Bennett of Brockton, MA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, September 18, 2010 at St. James AME Church, 1501 Patterson Ave. with Reverend Steven L. Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
The funeral cortege will assemble at the home of Franklin and Bettie Bennett, 3623 San Carlos Drive, W-S, NC.
Mr. Pittman's family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Brian Center in Winston-Salem, NC for their patience and professional care of our loved one during his stay there.
