Holloway King Smoot, Jr. affectionately known as "Bobby" passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 2, 2009. He was a native of the city and was the son of Rena King and Holloway Smoot, Sr. Bobby attended the local public schools; however he graduated from the New York public school system. He later returned to Winston-Salem, NC where he met and married Jannie Virginia Caldwell in 1950 and from this union six children were born.

Bobby was a former employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and he retired from Sara Lee Knitting Company in order to be the caregiver for his wife. After the death of his wife, he worked at the Community Shoe Store which he enjoyed immensely.

Mr. Smoot was a member of Spencer Memorial Christian Church. He was a beloved husband and father, as was well known throughout the city as "Bobby" or "HK". He had many, many talents.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Reverend Reginald R. Smoot; and four brothers, Purnell, Bruce, Allen, and Johnny Smoot.

He is survived by his two daughters, Robbie Smoot and Renae (Jeff) Davis; a devoted daughter-in-law, Minister Laverne Smoot; three sons, Dwight (Myra) Smoot, Fredrick (DeHavia) Smoot, and Robert Smoot; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Lowery; three brothers, Woodrow (Frances) Smoot, Ed (Betty) Smoot, and Paul Smoot; three sisters-in-law, Diane (Garland) Wallace, Sr., Courtney Saunders, and Phyllis (John) Clawson; two brothers-in-law, Fredrick (Brenda) Caldwell and Ronald (Peggy) Caldwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Apostle Garland Wallace, Jr. officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Tuesday at the Chapel.
