Obituary

Our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and great-uncle made that final journey and he now rests in peace with his Heavenly Father.

Mr. Hobert J. Sharpe, Jr., formally of 226 NW 25th Street, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013.
Mr. Sharpe was born on May 4, 1920 in Harmony, NC to the late Hobert and Mary James Sharpe. He entered the army November 6, 1941, one month before Pearl Harbor (December 7, 1941). His rank was sergeant. He exited the army October7, 1945. He was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, NC, where he was a barber by trade. Also, he was an employee of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1982. Mr. Sharpe was a member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church for over thirty years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Nera Sharpe Stockton; and three brothers, Andrew Sharpe, Clay Sharpe and Eugene Sharpe.

He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Brenda Sharpe Adams of the home; three sons, Hobert (Elga) Sharpe, III, of Woodland Hills, CA., Darrell (Marlene) Sharpe of Bushkill, PA and Vernon Sharpe of New York, NY; nine grandchildren, Tonya Dunovant, Robert Adams, III, Jules Sharpe, Darren Griffin, Darrell Sharpe, Jr., Terrence Sharpe, Hope Smalls, Faith Smalls, and Kimberly Williams; six great-grandchildren, Breanna, Jayla, Michael, Shantel, Brandon and Alyssa; two devoted cousins, Mrs. Ella Mae Parker of Mooresville, NC and Mrs. Betty Tull of Fort Mill, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with the Reverend Johnny L. Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the church. The remains will lie in state at the church from Noon until 2 p.m.
