Mrs. Hilda Cain Smith, age 80, passed away September 14, 2019. She was born on May 20, 1939 in Mocksville, NC to the late Carl C. and Sarah Cain. Hilda was a graduate of Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Winston-Salem, NC. Hilda worked for Novant Health Hospital (formerly Forsyth Memorial Hospital) and Davie County Hospital with a combined 45 years of service. In addition, to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Francis L. Smith; daughters, Priscilla Miller Cooper, Brenda Smith, Debra Smith and Gwendolyn Wellman; son, Thomas Smith; and siblings, Clifton Cain, Evola Ellison, Millie West, Garfield Cain, and Roland Cain.
Hilda was a member of the United Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church where she served as the President of the Joint Missionary Ministry, Member of Sunday School, Deaconess Ministry, Trustee Ministry, and a Former member the Choir. Her passion was mission work. She held executive roles along with volunteer efforts of the Baptist Churches on the local, state, and national level of which she was a member and Former Vice-Chairperson of the Woman's Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary Convention of North Carolina Auxiliary to the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc., in addition she was a committed and supportive delegate to the General Baptist Convention and a Former Chairperson of District 4 Group 1 of the Woman's Auxiliary for Forsyth, Rockingham, Stokes and Surry Counties. A Former Fourth Vice-president and Executive Board Member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Rowan Baptist Association where she served on the J. Ray Butler Scholarship Committee; a Former Fourth Vice-President of the Forsyth County Missionary Union, Delegate to the Lott Carey Foreign Missionary Convention and a former choir Member. Member of the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association; Member of the Davie County Chapter of the NAACP and Former Chairperson of Davie County Training/Central Davie High School Reunion and a former member of the Elks Club.
Hilda leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Vanessa Miller of Winston-Salem, NC, Cassandra Miller and Marisa Miller of Metro Atlanta, GA, and son, Mike Smith (Velgene) of Danville, VA; one son-in-law, Willie Cooper; grandchildren, Patreesa Miller, Xarius Hampton, Shazzi McCullough, Jamien Smith, Demon Smith, Wesley Smith, Alisha Wellman, Thomas Smith, Jr., Michael Smith, Michelle Smith, and God granddaughter, Jasmine Jefferson; great-grandsons, Kyler Smith, Kyson Coleman, Logan Smith and Hendrixx Golden; one great-granddaughter, Makenzie Smith; two sisters, Lillie Mae Scott and Faye Carter (Richard); one brother, Wilbur Cain (Amelia); one brother-in-law, Hubert West, Sr.; one uncle, Gilbert Howell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:45pm Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 916 East 12 th St. Winston-Salem, NC 27101 with Dr. C. Anthony Jones, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 12:45pm on Saturday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that you make donations to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association in memory of Hilda Cain Smith.
