Mrs. Hermine Hyacinth Powell Forrest, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 8, 2020.
Hermine was born on January 1, 1932 in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to George and Gertrude Powell. In 1967 she moved to the United States and began working at Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York, NY where she worked as an EKG Technician for 26 years. In 1997 Hermine moved to Winston-Salem, NC where she became an active member in her community. She was a volunteer at Southeast Middle School, a member of the handbell choir at Emmanuel Baptist Church, member of the Senior Citizen's Club at Rupert Bell Recreation Center, and she enjoyed participating in local sewing groups.
Surviving to cherish fond memories of Hermine are her four children, Maureen Channer, Ian (Trina) Forrest, Courtney (Belinda) Forrest, and Christopher (Demethra) Forrest; step-daughter, Barbara Lawrence; six grandchildren, Courtney (Lisa) Forrest, Jr., Charisma Forrest, Davida Forrest, Christopher Forrest, Jr., Simonica Forrest, and Olivia Forrest; six great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:00am on Thursday at the Church.
