Sunday, August 16, 2009 our love, Herman Matthew Wiley Currence, Jr. went home. On that early morning we all felt left alone, yet our Father in Heaven was ready for his precious being to return home. God created a guardian angel on May 18, 1938 and placed him on this earth, today we release him back into the arms of our Creator, after battling a long-term respiratory illness. He was a graduate of West Charlotte Senior High School and obtained his engineering degree at Devry Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. Herman was a retiree of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after 27 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Currence, Sr. and mother, Sadie Currence.
Herman leaves to cherish his memories his brother, William Currence of Mitcheville, MD; uncle, Charles Hairston of Spokane, WA; former wife and partner of 35 years, Delores Pendergrass Currence; his children, Kent Tolliver, Herman Currence, III, Dwight Currence, Patrick Currence, and Chad Clontz all of Charlotte, NC, Mark Currence of Richmond, VA, Valarie Williams of Florence, SC, Tammy Edney of Butner, NC, Jermaine Currence, Melissa Currence, and Patrice Hayes all of Winston-Salem, NC; a very special granddaughter that was like a daughter, Michelle Williams; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he adored; other relatives and friends.
