Mr. Herbert Lee Sligh, born June 5, 1939 to the late Cornelius and Hattie Sligh in Newberry, South Carolina, departed this life March 25, 2014.
He served in the U. S. Army as a medic. As a veteran and longtime resident of Winston-Salem, "Sly" joined the American Legion Post #128. He retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after more than 34 years of service.
He was a member of Goler Memorial A. M. E. Zion Church where he served on the Usher Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elton C. Sligh and Benny T. Sligh.
Herbert leaves to remember him his wife, Betty C. Sligh; one daughter, April (Sean) Stanback; two sisters, Janie (Johnny) Senn and Ernestine (the late Edward) Bush of Mispah, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Kinchen, Arlenia (the late Elton) Sligh, and Mary (the late Benny) Sligh of New York, NY; a brother-in-law, Larry "Duck" Cunningham; two grandchildren, Sean Stanback, Jr. and Seanna M. Stanback; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 2pm Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Saturday at the Chapel.
