Dr. Herbert Louis Hope departed this life on Saturday, January 9, 2010. A native of Gastonia, NC, the son of Gomain Davis Hope and John Walter Hope, he was born on June 19, 1930, the tenth of twelve children. Dr. Hope graduated from Highland High School in Gastonia, received a B.S. Degree in Education from Winston-Salem State University, Masters of Education Degree from North Carolina Central University, and Doctorate of Education from NCCU and Wake Forest University. His professional career included Elementary/Junior High School teacher, basketball coach, and band director for 16 years. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Danville, Va. in 1992, after 18 years of service.

His parents and all siblings, Robert, Benjamin, James Walter, Albert, William, Josephus, Loretta, Mattie, Margaret Ellen, Mary, and a still-born brother preceded him in death.

Surviving to cherish his memory are wife, Annie Faye Witt Hope; two sons, Darrell Hope of Los Angeles, CA and Eric Drane of Sechelt, British Columbia; two daughters, Kathy (Kenneth) Jackson and Esselyn Hope both of Durham, NC; four grandchildren, Kanalyn and Kenetrius Jackson, Asia and Kyra McLean; other loving family members include, Anthony (Jonsie), Leonardo, Gregory (Lisa), Stephan, and Katrina (Michael); 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers-in-law, 6 sisters-in-law, devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Friday, January 15, 2010 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, 822 Carl Russell Ave. W-S, NC 27101. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 12:30pm on Friday at the Church.
