Obituary

Mr. Henry LeGrand Rucker, 72, died unexpectedly on February 2, 2022 at his residence. He was born on May 22, 1949 in Rowan County, North Carolina to the late Nelson LeGrand McMahon and Ethel Bernice Stapler. Henry graduated from Atkins High School Class of 1967. In May 1971 he enlisted into the United States Air Force and honorably served his country until retiring on September 30, 1991. He later attended Shaw University in Raleigh, NC and graduated on December 7, 2002 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration/Management.

Henry was a devoted member of Hanes Memorial CME Church where he served on the Ensemble Choir, Men's Choir, Steward Board, and Usher Board. Henry previously attended Mt Calvary Holiness Church for many years. He enjoyed watching basketball and football. His favorite teams were the UNC TarHeels, Los Angeles Lakers Basketball and the San Francisco 49ers Football. He loved his family and especially his girls and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alton Darrell Rucker; sister, Phyllis Stapler Brown; and son, Nathaniel Lockhart

He is survived by his daughters, Chevella Gaston(Marvin) of Winston Salem, NC, Kim McCullough(Alex) of Winston Salem, NC, Charmayne Wesley(Reginald Wardlaw) of Columbus, GA, Sherilyn Pianar(Crystal) of San Antonio, TX, and Tyla Gadson of Nashville, TN; son, Henrico Munoz(Charmaine) of Canada; twelve grandchildren, Leah Gaston, Andrew "AJ" Gaston, Alexis McCullough, Jalen Turner, Cynann Wardlaw, Zuri Humphries, Shampaine McCarter, Kieara Lockhart, Christopher Tatum, Devyn Lockhart, Deionna White, and Jamyla Lockhart; five great-grandchildren; brother, James Thomas Rucker of Durham, NC; sisters, Novis Scippio of Stockton, CA and Deitra Deneen Stapler Hulbert of Winston Salem, NC; brother-in-law, Johnny Brown of High Point, NC; he is also survived by his former wife, Sharon Jefferson Rucker; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, bonus daughters, sons, grandchildren and friends; and special devoted friends, Virginia Moore and Roseni Harper.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, February 11, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Hanes Memorial CME Church with Rev. Dr. Clarence Cox, III officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church. Interment will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, February 15, 2022 in Salisbury National Cemetery.

The service will be livestreamed on the Hanes Memorial CME Church Facebook page beginning at 1:00pm Saturday, February 12, 2022.
