Mr. Henry Franklin Porter, affectionately known as "Pete", 76, of 1314 N. Jackson Avenue, Winston-Salem, passed from this life on Friday, June 22, 2007. He was born on January 5, 1931 in Randolph County, NC to Carrie Belle Porter and Will Porter and was reared in Thomasville, NC. Mr. Porter retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he devoted his service on the Vocal Choir when his health permitted.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 33 years, Sarah Ruth Winchester Porter, and a granddaughter, Sabrina Porter.
Mr. Porter leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Robin R. Pendleton of Boca Raton, FL, Myra (Dwight) Smoot and Sylvia Bonaparte both of Winston-Salem, NC; three sons, Keye Porter, Curtis Porterm and Kenneth Ingram Porter all of Winston-Salem, NC; nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rico Porter, Charles Porter, Kedrick Gibson, Saharia Porter, Antwain Porter, Dominique Barksdale, Devon Plater, Olajawan Harriston and Kenneth Ingram, Jr. all of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother-in-law, Herbert Winchester; two sisters-in-law, Jessie Porter of Greensboro, NC and Johnnie Gauthney of Philadelphia, PA; two special friends, Betty Jean Ingram and Linda Evans of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, June 28, 2007 from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverend Dwight Hash officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30 pm until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.
