Helene Humphries Livingston passed away on October 24, 2024 after an extended illness. She was born December 11, 1927 to Ernest and Beatrice Humphries in Danville, Virginia. She has resided in Winston-Salem since early childhood. She attended the W-S Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Atkins High School in 1947.
Helene was married to Joe Alphonso Livingston, Jr. for 42 years. Their union produced one son, Warren D. Livingston. She was a loving, devoted wife and mother, a diligent homemaker. She accepted Christ at an early age and trusted Him throughout her life. She became a member of Saint Andrews UMC and participated in many church activities. She served as Church Secretary, a member of the Usher Board; helped wherever needed and was crowned "Miss St. Andrews".
Later, she became a member of Saints Home UMC where her enthusiasm and dedication continued until her health began to fail. Mrs. Livingston was a joyful, faithful member of the United Methodist Women, N.K.A. United Women in Faith. She was often called upon to collect the offering on Women's Day and graciously accepted the opportunity to serve. She was celebrated as "Woman of the Year".
Helene was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Joe A. Livingston, Jr.; a special granddaughter and caregiver, Erika Livingston; three brothers, James Green, Ernest and Charles Humphries; five sisters, Katie Ballou, Mary Brown, Beatrice Halton, Maggie Gunner and Elnora Martin.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Warren D. Livingston; one grandson, Lynn Thomas; great-grandchildren, Christian, Asha (also a wonderful caregiver), Brandye, Blaise, Azsane, Trei and Aaryona; three great-great grandchildren, Aubrey, Alexander and Noah; one sister, Alease Humphries Madden of Damascus, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is also survived by Earnestine Humphrey Coles, her niece, who was a loyal, dependable and dedicated caregiver and companion.
Helene will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Saints Home United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Church.
