Born in Madison, NC on August 26, 1932, Ms. Helen Earl Redd passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Helen was the daughter of John W. Redd and Priscilla Hayes Redd. She spent much of her life in Winston-Salem, NC and was a long time resident of Happy Hill Gardens community, and was affectionately known as "Miss Redd."
Helen was educated in the public schools of Rockingham County, NC. She retired from the Sheraton Inn on Knowllwood Street in housekeeping. Reared in the Baptist faith, she was a former member of St. Peters Apostolic Church until her health began to fail.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Vance and Dewayne Redd; one brother, Johnny Redd; and two sisters, Georgia Tucker and Alvitla Tucker; and granddaughter, Michelle Redd.
Precious memories will be cherished by her loving and devoted son, Mark (Gloria) Redd of Winston-Salem, NC; four daughters, Priscilla (Lewis) Douglas, Debra Lewis, and Lynn Redd all of Atglen, Pennsylvania, and Elaine (Raymond) Jones of Winston-Salem, NC; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Sam Redd, William (Annie) Redd, and Phillip (Carrie) Redd all of Winston-Salem, NC, and Ebert "Jimmy" Redd of Washington, DC; a devoted son-in-law, Hank Lewis of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other more distant relatives and many caring and devoted friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Neely officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. Family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1 pm Monday at the funeral home.
