Helen Ray, the fourth child of Elonis and Lucille Johnson was born July 26, 1938 in Blacksville, Sc.  Helen received her education from Macedonia High School in 1958.  She relocated to New York where she gained employment as a nanny until her matrimony in 1959 to the love of her life, Walter Ray.

Helen was baptized at Southern Baptist in Corona, NY where she sang on the choir and was a member of the missionary and the Pastor's Aid Club until relocating in September 1998 to Lewisville, NC.

Helen gained employment with American Human Resources until her job phased out in 2009.

Helen was involved deeply with her children's education and cooking for her family every day.  Besides Helen's parents, she was preceded in death by her three children, Stephen, Walter, Jr., and Erica Dooley; brothers, Robert, Willie, and Johnny Johnson; and one sister, Mae Rodriguez.

Helen leaves to cherish her fond memories and love her devoted husband, Walter Ray; brother, McKinley Johnson of Delray Beach, FL; three sisters, Bertha Tyler of Blacksville, SC, Liz Wilson of Jamaica, NY, and Betty Matthews of Orangeburg, SC; six grandchildren, Ronnell, Samantha, Tyrke, and Tyrell Ray of Queens, NY, Jessica Phoenix and Tahjmin (Jasmine) Dooley; 12 great-grands; sisters-in-law, Sallie Ray of Denmark, SC and Mary Ray of Queens, NY; brothers-in-law, Herbert Ray of Queens, NY, John (Dorothy) Ray of Lewisville, NC, and Floyd (Thelma) Ray of Denmark, SC; 32 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, June 21, 2025 at First Calvary Baptist Church. The public viewing and family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
