Ms. Helen Louise Cochrane, loving sister and aunt, affectionately known as Lou by family and friends, passed away January 19, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
Helen was born April 18, 1949 in Winston-Salem to Willie Decatur Cochrane and Vivian Lucinda Penn Cochrane.
She attended Oakwood University for a season and graduated from Forsyth Technical College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Helen worked as a CNA and a nurse at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for approximately 20 years and as a nurse at Oak Forest Rehabilitation Center for approximately 7 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Vivian Cochrane; her sister, Rosetta Olivia Cochrane; her brothers, Joe Penn and Willie Franklin Cochrane; and her grandmother, Susan Penn Johnson.
Helen is survived by three brothers, James (Phyllis) Cochrane, Robert Cochrane of the city, and Raymond Cochrane of Brooklyn, NY; three sisters, Janie (Howard) Harris, Virginia Briscoe and Delois Cochrane of the city; aunt, Olivia Gore; uncle, James Franklin Marshall, both of the city; sister-in-law, Rachel Penn; seven nephews, Joseph Penn, Kevin, Christopher, Stephen, James, Dewayne, and Thomas Cochrane, of the city; five nieces, Michelle Cochrane, Stephanie White, Renaé Barr, Jenaé Boston, of the city, and Mary Artebury of Shawnee, Kansas; and a host of cousins, great nephews and nieces, great- great nephews and nieces, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00Noon Monday, January 25, 2010 at Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Moses Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00Noon on Monday at the Church.
