Mrs. Hazel Frances Matthews King, of 1643 E. 23rd Street passed away Friday, July 3, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. King was a native of Forsyth County born December 21, 1924 to Mr. William F. and Alice Moore Matthews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Branson Henry King, Sr.; three brothers, William, Robert, and Nathaniel Matthews; two sisters, Helen Matthews Carter and Johnnie Mae Matthews Thomas; and a devoted friend, Mrs. Elizabeth Wynecoff.
Mrs. King, a devoted mother and caregiver; a kind and loving person to everyone; leaves to cherish in her loving memory four children whom she loved and cared for wholeheartedly, Dorothy King (Charlie) Douglas, Sr., Marvin Richard King, Sr., Branson Henry (Catherine) King, Jr., and Annetta King Russell Payne; one brother, Joseph A. Matthews; three sisters, Mable Matthews (Robert) Moore, Hymeria Matthews Teet, and Malvernia Matthews (Curtis) Alford; eight grandchildren, Rodney (Anita) King, Darryl (Cherry) King, Cynthia Christine Russell, Charlie A. Douglas, Jr., Christopher (Marquette) Russell, Jr., Clark "Cooter" Russell, Kimberly King (John) Hatcher, and Marvin (Angelia) King, Jr.; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four special friends who she loved and adopted as her own, James "Bit" and Julia Chisholm, Kimberly Hinton, and Johnny "Bump" France, Jr.; two special friends, Thomasina Holmes and Katrina Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, July 10, 2009 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Gilliam, pastor of Antioch Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12Noon until 1pm on Friday at the funeral home.
