Mrs. Hattie Cain Jeter transitioned into a peaceful sleep on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Hattie Cain Jeter was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on January 21, 1921. She was the oldest of seven children born to William Henry Cain, Sr. and Hattie Williams Cain.
She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and worked as a domestic worker until her retirement after years of employment. She was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church before her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother; husband, Coleman Palmer Jeter; son, Cary Donald Cain; brothers, William Henry Cain, Jr. and Julius Cain; sisters, Annie Cain Jacobs, Ardell Cain Roan, and Mary Cain Shields; devoted niece, Gloria Cain King; and nephew, William Henry Cain III.
Hattie Jeter is survived by her sister, Hazel Lyerly of Philadelphia, PA; brother-in-law, Theodore Shields; a devoted daughter-in-law, Maxine Spann Cain; three loving and devoted grandchildren, Cary (Lori) Cain, II of Durham, NC, Malia Cain, and Cevin Cain both of Winston-Salem, NC; four great-grandchildren, Cevin Cain, Jackson Cain, Caliyah Cain, and Johnell Spann; five great-great grandchildren, Jayden Cain, Ariyah Cain, Caidyn Cain, Penelope Spann, and Zorah Spann; devoted nieces, Val Jean Cain Grant and Brenda Cain Lyons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, Lorraine Barringer and Rev. Dee McCullough; and other dear friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, September 12, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Union Baptist Church, 1200 Trade St. NW W-S, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Saturday at the Church. Interment will be held at 12:30pm Monday, September 15, 2025 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
