Hattie L. Grier was born January 26, 1935 in Lancaster, SC to the late Roy Howie and Sylvia McKinney Howie, and resided in Paterson, NJ most of her life. She departed this life on January 15, 2013.

She was educated in the Mecklenburg County and Forsyth County Public School System. At an early age she joined the Glorious Church of God In Christ, and migrated to Paterson, NJ, where she united with Greater Bethel Church of Christ under the leadership of Bishop Herbert Frazier.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Sylvia Howie; and sister, Floy Millie Howie.

She leaves to cherish fond memories two daughters, Fontella Howie and Cornelia McCall; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; god daughter, Lucy Lewis; god mother, Maggie Frazier; son-in-law, James McCall; one niece, Ylene Cager; one nephew, Roy King; and a host of cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors.



A Celebration of her life will be held at 12noon Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, 822 Carl Russell Ave., Winston-Salem, NC. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Chapel.
