Hattie Brenda Delois Jones , 71, was born to Willie B. and Roma O. Jones. She passed away peacefully at her home early Thursday morning, October 17, 2019.
Brenda graduated from Carver High School (Class of 1966) and Winston Salem State University (Class of 1970). She was a dedicated teacher in the District of Columbia Public School for 34 years. She had a love for children and exceled in teaching throughout her career. Brenda was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Landover, MD while living in D.C. She taught Sunday School for many years. After retiring, she returned to Winston-Salem and united with Dreamland Park Baptist Church. She combined her love for children and teaching by becoming a Sunday School teacher. Brenda opened her home day care center, Bright Future Learning Center. Brenda was called, "the best Auntie in the world". All of her nieces and nephews have their stories about the care and love she shared with them for all their lives.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her three brothers and their wives, Hubert O. Jones: James W. (Katie) Jones, and Nathaniel F. (Rachel) Jones.
Surviving to cherish precious memories are two sisters, Martha E. Rutledge of Washington, D.C., and Esther (Joseph) Haggler of Kernersville, NC; five brothers, Thomas W. (Rosa) Jones of Ayers, MA, George C. (Patricia) Jones of Raleigh, NC, Odell E. (Roslyn) Jones, Hobart L. (Carolyn) Jones all of Winston-Salem NC, and Reginald E. (Kathy) Jones of Reston, VA; special friend, Sylvia (John) Sullivan; and a host of nieces and nephews , cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers: the family requests contributions be made to Dreamland Park Baptist Church, 2340 Dunbar Street, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Dreamland Park Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ronald Fisher officiating. The family visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am on Thursday at the Church. Interment will be held at 9:00am Friday, October 25, 2019 in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
