Harvey Leon Logan was born February 28, 1932 in Halifax, VA to Willie S. and Ida Farmer Logan. He departed this life on Tuesday morning, January 21, 2014 at the Wake Forest Baptist Health after a short period of illness.
Mr. Logan attended the public schools in Halifax, VA. He was honorably discharged from the US Army and relocated to New York. He retired from the United States Postal Service and after 27 years as a motorman with the New York City Transit System, he retired in 1987.
Before moving to Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Logan was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Halifax, VA. He later joined Berean Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY serving on the Deacon Ministry, Ushers Ministry and was a Sunday school teacher. In 2004, he united with Shiloh Baptist Church and served faithfully and untiringly with the Deacons and Trustee Ministries, Hospitality Committee and Sunday school.
An avid gardener, he looked forward to planting a variety of vegetables each year and traveled to many homes sharing them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and leaves to cherish the legacy of his love and dear memories to his devoted wife of the home, Atha L. Logan; sons, Ronald Logan and Maurice Tart of Brooklyn, NY; daughters, Patricia Logan of Lithonia, GA and Cheryl Washington of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister, Amelia Forte of California; grandsons, Corey Jones of Lithonia, GA, Shawn Washington of Brooklyn, NY, and Nicolas Tart of Hillside, NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
