Mr. Harry Johnnie Baylor, Jr. transitioned into his heavenly home March 24, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Born in Norfolk, VA on March 16, 1945, he was the only child of the late Mr. & Mrs. Harry Johnnie Baylor Sr. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, VA and later attended Norfolk State University where he lettered in both football and basketball.
Harry leaves to cherish his memories, Annie, his wife of 38 years; daughter, Stephanie of Fairfax, VA; sons, Dennis Stimpson (US Army-Retired) & wife Tiffany and Harry, III of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Victoria (Salem College) Justin (US Marines), Amalarie, Harry IV, Richard; four brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.
Harry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a long time employee at Modern Toyota for over 30 years. Dedicated to all things sports, he was an avid LA Lakers, Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan. He was extremely active in the local sports community. He was a former coach of Little league baseball (South Little League), Pop Warner Football (Tiny Greyhounds), and a former assistant Junior Varsity Football coach at Parkland High School. After his coaching days were over he became a league official in three different associations for football, basketball and softball for over 20 years throughout all of North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Glenn's Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, 2200 Bloomtown Rd., East Bend, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Chapel.
