On the morning of Monday, August 18, 2025, our Lord and Savior whispered these words to his beloved son, Harry Lee Henderson.
The son of the late Nora D. Henderson and the late Wannamaker Thompson, Harry was born on September 3, 1944. He attended the public schools of Forsyth County and was a 1964 graduate of Anderson High School. Harry enlisted in the military in June 1971. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and rose to the rank of Corporal.
Harry was a state employee and worked at Winston-Salem State University as a supervisor in the Maintenance Department for over 30 years, before retiring in 2001. Harry also attended night classes at Forsyth Technical Institute.
He attended St. James A.M.E. Church before joining Goler Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church. Prior to his health declining, Harry served on the Steward Board and was a member of the Senior Usher Board.
Harry married Carolyn in March 1974, and they have been married for 51 years. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; sister, Sandra Lomax; and brothers, Wesley and Howard Henderson.
His life will be forever cherished by his wife, Carolyn; son, Kevin (Tammy) Adams; grandson, Samuel Wilson, all of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Carolyn Pauling of Winston-Salem, NC, Karen, Angela, Antoinette, Dorethea, Patricia and Vernell; brothers, Steven, Vincent and Anthony all of New York; two special nephews, Brian (Veta) Henderson and Russell (Shakira) Debnam; a great-nephew, Chiele Henderson; a great-niece, Alaysia Debnam; devoted family members, Pamela (George) Mack, Regina Dunbar, Tammy, Darin and Marty Pittman; special cousins, Marvin (Naomi) Blackmon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, August 22, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with Rev. Dr. Tressala Hicklin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:00pm until 12:30pm on Saturday at the Church.
