Mrs. Harriette M. Parker, 63, of 506 Link Street was born March 17, 1948 in Lancaster, SC. She was the eldest daughter of Pernell J. and Mary M. McGriff. She departed this life on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, after an extended period of illness.
Harriette was a graduate of Atkins High School Class of 1966. She furthered her education at McLean Business School.
She was a former member of John Wesley AME Zion Church where she actively served on the Usher board. She was baptized at an early age.
Those left to cherish many loving memories are her parents, Pernell J. and Mary M. McGriff of Winston-Salem, NC; her husband, Lester L. Parker of Hamlet, NC; mother-in-law, Victoria D. Parker of Rockingham, NC; five children, David McGriff, Leslie D. Parker of Hamlet, NC, a devoted son and caregiver: Harold E. Parker of Fayetteville, NC, Renee' A. Parker of Hamlet, NC, and Jeffrey D. Parker of Greenville, NC; two granddaughters, Tiandra Gillespie and Da'Shaun Gillespie of Bennettesville, SC; two sisters, Kathy A. McGriff of Hamlet, NC and Denise Y. McGriff of Winston-Salem, NC; special friends of the family, Joseph T. Mercer, Jr., Kieonda Miller, and Frank A. Guyton, Sr.; three aunts, Virginia M. McCullough (Ira), Alicia M. Barksdale of Winston-Salem, NC, and Betty M. MaGee (Ken) of Texas City, TX; one uncle, Leroy McGriff of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lewis E. Devlin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Monday at the Chapel.
