Mr. Harold J. Wigfall, 98, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 6, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1909 in Brooklyn, NY to Nellie B. and Albert Wigfall. He had been a resident of Homestead Hills for the last two years, and before his death, had a brief stay at Silas Creek Manor.
Mr. Wigfall was a retired foreman for Taylor Brothers where he worked for 46 years. A lifelong member of Wentz Memorial United Church of Christ, the Wigfall family came to Winston-Salem, NC in 1920 and in 1924 was on of the families that founded Wentz Memorial United Church of Christ. He was Chairman of the Deacon Board for 35 years and was honored as Deacon Emeritus.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to cherish his memories his faithful and loving wife of 74 years, Frances C. Wigfall; two nieces, Jennie Wallace and Rose Wilson both of Winston-Salem, NC; one nephew, Willie Lee (Rose) Irby of Philadelphia, PA; great nieces and nephews, Sherry Wigfall, Beverly (Bernard) Wallace, Ronald Wallace, Laverne Smoot, Sylvania (Roddy) Wilder, Jerome (Martha) Wilson, Donald (Alice) Wallace, Mary Ruth (Lafayette) Campbell, and Charles (Elizabeth) Wilson all of Winston-Salem, NC and Pastor and Co-Pastor Daniel and Barbara Salley of Accokeek, MD; several great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, August 10, 2007 from the Wentz Memorial United Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1:30 pm until 2 pm on Friday at the Church.
