Mrs. Hannah Geneva Hightower, 97, was born November 29, 1909 in Bridgeport, Indiana. She was one of six children born to James and Etta Lee Burton. She was married to Dr. James P. Hightower. She passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2007.
In 1950 she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to Winston-Salem, NC with her husband and three daughters. In addition to being a homemaker, she shared her creative talents and skills teaching basic life skills training and sewing in the mid to late fifties. She also worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer.
As a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church she worked and served in various capacities. She was a member of Bowen Park Community Club and the Daughters of Isis Sethos Court #105.
Through out her life she was an inspiration to her family and many friends. She often shared her words of wisdom with young people and others who enjoyed engaging her in conversation.
She was preceded in death by her parents James and Etta Lee Burton and her husband Dr. James P. Hightower.
She is survived by her three daughters, Leona Collins (Melvin), Joyce Hightower Harris, and Martha Jo Campbell; four grandchildren, Joyce Collins Wilkerson, Curtis Andrew Campbell, II, Melvin R. Collins, Jr., and Stephanie Harris Phillips; six great grandchildren and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and dedicated friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, April 16, 2007 at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 pm Monday at the church.
