Gwendolyn Loretta Williamson, 63, affectionately known as "Mama Gwen", gained her heavenly wings on June 19, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center, after a brief illness. Gwendolyn, a resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was born in Mullins, South Carolina on March 12, 1956 to Annie Mae Lindsay and Freddie George Williamson. She attended Anderson and Parkland High School in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system. She joined Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church and sang in the Sanctuary Choir.
Gwendolyn enjoyed loving and supporting her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking and being in church faithfully. She especially loved going home and being with her family in Mullins South Carolina. It was her essence and her smile that people gravitated to. It was a blessing to be in her presence.
She is survived by sons Jeltress Williamson, Jeroid Orr, and Roberto Williamson; grandchildren La'Jcia, Shanique, Jeltrese, Sania Jarrion and Ja'sel, and 9 great grandchildren. Gwendolyn is also survived by her mother, Annie Mae Lindsay, " Big Mama "; her siblings, Fred (Gail) Williamson of Rome New York, Deloris (Richard) Wishom of Pataskala, Ohio, Darlene (Charles) Jackson of Pataskala, Ohio, Melissa (Lowell) Manning of Florence, South Carolina, Andre (Colette) Williamson of Ft. Washington, Maryland, Alycia Williamson, of Rains, South Carolina, Beatrice (Kin) Brown of Silver Springs, Maryland, Fredrick (Doris Jean) Williamson of Loris, South Carolina, and Ann Moody Charlotte, North Carolina; and a dear life partner, William Ford, affectionately known as " Fella" .
She was preceded in death by her son, Rainal Williamson in 1993; a brother, George Wallace Williamson in 2015; and her father, Freddie George Williamson in 2017. The family extends thanks to everyone for the love that was shown to them during their time of bereavement. "Let not your hearts be heavy I say, Rejoice, rejoice in the Lord in whom you shall find comfort."
Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Goler Memorial AME Zion Church. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 1:00pm until 1:30pm on Thursday at the Church.
