Gwendolyn Foxx Slade was born September, 21, 1949 in Mecklenburg County to the late Beaufort Foxx and Madeline McClary Foxx. The Lord called her home on December 5, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Health.

Gwen received her B.S. Degree at Winston-Salem State University and her Masters of Education Degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Gwen was a devoted and dedicated educator for the Yadkin County School System for 38 years. She had a particular fondness and devotion to the staff and students at Yadkinville Elementary School.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Beaufort Foxx.

Left to celebrate her life are her devoted and loving husband, James P. Slade III; daughter, Dana E. Slade; son, James P. Slade IV (Charna); grandchildren, Marc A. Slade, Darion J. Slade, and Jalaiah P. Slade; brothers, Jethro Foxx (Vernetta), Charles Foxx and Lawrence Foxx all of Charlotte; sisters, Jacqueline Foxx of Columbia, SC, Debora Ashcraft(Eugene) of Polkton, NC, Colette Foxx and Daphne King of Charlotte, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Wednesday at the Church.
