IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory Peck
Peterson, Sr.
January 25, 2025
Gregory Peck Peterson, Sr. was born on November 7, 1950, to James Steele and Marie (Peterson) Greene in Bronx, New York. He was raised by his grandparents, Annie and Joe Steele in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He entered eternal life peacefully on January 25, 2025, surrounded by his children at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Gregory was educated in the Forsyth County School System and graduated from Atkins High School in 1970 and attended Winston-Salem State University. He worked for Stroh Brewery Company until he retired in 1999. He met his wife, Wanda while she was attending medical school, and they were married in August of 1982. From that union they had three children, Carla, Gregory Jr, and Andrea Leigh, and they remained married until her passing in 2005.
Greg was easy to love and didn't know a stranger. He loved nature, the outdoors and spent a lot of time enjoying the sunshine. He thoroughly enjoyed watching sports from ACC basketball to the NFL and always pulled for the Carolina Tar Heels. He loved watching old westerns, sci-fi, and anything with lots of action. Greg loved to dress sharply and would state that he was better looking than Billy Dee Williams. He loved to laugh and had an amazing sense of humor. He was a very present father and was so proud of his three children. He loved bird watching, the beach, and especially beating his friends and family in dominos. His love of art and drawing was very evident in his helpfulness with many school projects. Greg loved to cook and often stated that he was a better cook than all his children. He was very handy and could fix just about anything. He had a positive outlook on life and rarely complained. He had a helpful spirit and would do anything he could to serve others; he will be missed by all who knew him.
Gregory was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Mitchell Peterson, MD; his grandparents; parents; sisters, Delma and June; and brother, Tyrone.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Carla Peterson Attucks (Reginald), Gregory Peck Peterson, Jr., and Andrea Leigh Peterson; grandchildren, Gregory Peck Peterson, III and Ellodie Denise Attucks; fiancé, Gail Couthen and her son, Matthew Couthen (Jennifer); siblings, Penni Greene and Toni Greene of Willingboro, New Jersey, Victor Greene (Adjawa) and Vinnie Greene of Burlington, New Jersey, Sandra Peterson of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Christine Davis of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Darla Steele Lyons of Virginia; uncle, Bob of Yadkinville, NC; aunts, Joann and Priscilla of Winston-Salem; a host of brothers-in law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, longtime friends and his beloved German shepherd, Sam.
