On February 18, 2017 at KBR Hospice in Winston-Salem, NC, Mr. Gregory D. Davis, a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather and friend received his call home to be with his Heavenly Father.
Gregory was born on November 24, 1950 in Winston-Salem NC to John Davis, and Evangelist Wilma White.
He graduated from Anderson High school in 1970 and attended Winston-Salem State University. Greg retired with 22 years of service from the U.S. Army and Reserve and 32 years of service at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. During retirement, he worked at Lankford Security as a security officer.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an usher, safety committee member and choir member. Mr. Davis enjoyed missionary work and attended both services on Sundays. He became an ordained deacon in 2009, under the leadership of Bishop Daniel R. Coleman, Sr. at True Victory Ministries. He was a self-taught musician who also assisted at several churches by playing the organ, bass guitar and drums.
Greg was a masonic member of the Bivouac Lodge (#503). Outside of Church Mr. Davis was a part of the Community Appearance Task Force.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, John Davis and Evangelist Wilma White; one brother, James Purcell; one sister, Purlene Valentine; and niece, Johnetta Coleman.
He leaves to cherish his life a devoted wife of 41 years, Virginia Davis; three daughters, Percella, Adrienna and Lisa Davis; five grandchildren, Persian Reeves, Audrienna Charles, Timeya Williams, Bria Robinson and Byron Robinson, Jr.; one brother, Luther Davis; very close friends, Charles Jackson, Nelson Anthony, and Dwight Parks; a host of special in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Celebration of life will take place at 11:30 am Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4129 Northampton Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Saturday at the Church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Wake Forest Baptist Health Cancer Center-6 th Floor for all the care provided to Mr. Davis.
